Christian Wade and Brad Barritt called by Lions

Christian Wade and Brad Barritt has been called up to join the British & Irish Lions as injury cover for Jamie Roberts and George North.
The Welsh centre, who suffered a suspected torn hamstring in this morning’s win over the Waratahs, is set to have a scan tomorrow but could be out of the Test series against the Wallabies which starts next week in Brisbane.
Meanwhile, North, who didn’t return on the field after half-time against the Combined Country, is still recovering from a tight hamstring.
England flyer Wade, who was due to play against Argentina later today, will leave Buenos Aires tonight and arrive in Australia on Monday.
Barritt was being rested this summer but he will provide some valuable cover for the No.12 jersey with fellow Englishman Billy Twelvetrees also called up earlier this week.
Lions boss Warren Gatland said: “We have obviously got ongoing treatment of some players so it’s prudent to make sure we have enough backline cover. Christian played well in the 1st Test against Argentina and is match fit.”
England Head Coach Stuart Lancaster said: “We’re delighted for Christian. He’s been in excellent form, played really well on his Test debut against Argentina last weekend and he goes with the best wishes of all the England players and management.
“Jonny May comes into the side to win his first cap against the Pumas today. He’s been an important part of our squad over the last four weeks, he’s up to speed with everything we’re doing and this is a great opportunity for him.”
