The baffling case of Samu Kerevi’s 20-minute red card during Australia’s romp in Cardiff two months ago provides a stark insight into rugby’s capacity for muddled thinking.
The referee, New Zealander James Doleman, decided that Kerevi’s high tackle on Wales’ Jac Morgan required nothing worse than 10 minutes in the bin. Doleman gave the Wallaby centre a yellow card, referring the matter to the Foul Play Review Officer, Brett Cronan of the Australian Rugby Union.
