AUSTRALIA looked to be cruising to victory leading 20-3 midway through the first half before the Pumas ripped them to shreds.

Angus Bell’s powerful surge set up Australia’s first try for flanker Carlo Tizzano. Argentina hit back from the kick-off with Marcos Kremer touching down after a powerful surge from prop Thomas Gallo, but obstruction in the build up saw the try ruled out.

With 10 points from Ben Donaldson’s boot, Andrew Kellaway’s try put the clear at 20-3 on the half hour mark. Rob Valetini carried hard before slick play from Donaldson spread the ball wide to Max Jorgensen, who put Kellaway in.

There was an instant response from the Pumas. From a quick lineout, Pablo Matera’s brilliant offload to Mateo Carreras coming off his wing put him uner the sticks. And the Wallabies were stunned moments later when Pablo Montoya scored from close range on his 100th cap.

An arm wrestle up front ensued until Juan Martin Gonzalez crashed over and Tomas Albornoz converted to put Argentina ahead.

From another surge Lucio Cinti was stopped stopped and the supporting Matera touched down under the posts. Oviedo got in on the act before full-back Juan Cruz Mallia grabbed a try double to take the Pumas past 50.

Take McDermott’s try in between Mallia’s efforts were the first point Austrlia scored since the half hour mark.

The Pumas weren’t finished and Oviedo and Cinti both crashed over to humiliate Australia.
