THE NFL has infiltrated free-to-air broadcast channels in the UK, such as the BBC and ITV, using weekly content like ‘The NFL Show’ to plug American Football in nations where, unlike Rugby Union, the sport has little or no grass-roots participation, history, or cultural significance.
As a result it is getting more visibility than Rugby Union, a sport which originated from centuries of football games to be codified in England in 1845, and spread quickly to Wales, Scotland, and across the Irish Sea.
