FORMER Wales flanker Alun Carter died last week while out on a walk at the age of 59.
Carter made his Wales debut against England in 1991 and won the second of his two caps against Scotland that year.
After a playing career that took in spells at Pontypool and Newport, Carter became a distinguished sport analyst and spent 12 years as part of the Welsh management, including the 1999 home World Cup and the 2005 Grand Slam success.
He worked under national coaches Kevin Bowring, Graham Henry, Steve Hansen, Mike Ruddock, Scott Johnson and Gareth Jenkins, and later spent five years as team manager of Worcester.
He also had 18 months back at his beloved Pontypool as a consultant and director of rugby until 2015 before taking on a role at Cardiff Metropolitan University as a lecturer in sport performance analysis.
The captain of the 1983 Welsh Schools Grand Slam winning team, he went on to enjoy a 15 year senior career of more than 300 first class games that ended in April 1999.
