Cardiff sign another scrum-half in Johan Mulder

have announced the signing of 24-year-old South African -half Johan Mulder from fellow United Rugby Championship side the .

This is the second No.9 arrival at Arms Park in as many weeks following the signing of scrum-half Aled Davies from Premiership side .

Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt said: “We now have a really competitive group of scrum-halves who will drive each other to greater heights while also offering us different playing styles.”

Cardiff will also play in the Challenge Cup this season.

Mulder, who trained with Cardiff when they played matches in last season, said: “There is a lot of strong competition at scrum-half, which is great for everyone as it will push us all to improve.”

Sherratt added: “Johan impressed us when he helped us out in Durban.

“From initially looking at his footage, I could see straight away that he was a Cardiff-type player.

“He has an attacking mind-set and is good in unstructured play, while he is similar to [Cardiff ‘s South African outside-half] Tinus de Beer defensively.”
