NEW Zealand finished top of Pool A with a clean sweep, while Ireland won two out of three to qualify for the last eight and South Africa sneaked their way in after finishing second in the third place rankings.
It was a tight encounter in the opening game, with Ireland coming away with a 10-5 victory over South Africa thanks to tries from Jordan Conroy and Terry Kenedy.
The second game was a demolition job by New Zealand, beating Japan 40-12. Akuila Rokolisoa was the standout, scoring two tries and slotted four out of five conversions.
