SOUTH Africa were clinical in front of their home supporters as they blew away a helpless Fiji with a mesmerising eight-try display.

The young side looked like the themselves almost at points with huge carries, brutal defence, as well as some great attacking moves.

Captain Zach Porthen spoke on what he was impressed from his own side’s performance as he said: “Set piece has been a big work on for us and we showed that today and we hope that this carries on throughout the tournament.”

He also spoke on a focus from his side in “Getting our backs into the game and getting the ball moving”, which is something they certainly achieved scoring some wonderful running tries.

The Baby Boks came out firing with their first try coming within the first ten minutes as centre Jurenzo Julius powered his way over.

It was an end to end game, but South Africa’s defence was suffocating Fiji’s willingness to attack. Their second try came after pressure forced mistakes and a turnover for the Boks, then along with forward power to draw in the defenders, it gave full-back Michail Damon the space to run a lovely outside arc and cross for his sides second score.

The game was showing the classic fundamentals of South African as they pressured Fiji hugely at time and then forced a yellow card for the Fijian loosehead Breyton Legge in the 28th minute.

The South Africans capitalised on the scrum dominance and the extra man as winger Joel Leotlela scored after the Fijians were a man down in the scrum.

Julius gained his second after the Boks outside backs were making use of being a man up and sliced through the Fijian defence.

However, it was not to be a perfect half for the centre as he was sent to the bin for a tip tackle at the end of the half.

The South Africans started off the second half like they ended capitalising on Fijian errors to score again through hooker Luca Bakkes, as he powered over the line.

Fiji then finally managed to get something to stick as they scored through prop Anare Caginavanua.

Fiji then went back down to 14 men and the South Africans once again punished them in this period making use of the extra men and space scoring through Sibablwe Mahale and Likhhona Finca, with the latter finishing off a great move by the young Boks.

They then finished off their route with a running move down the finished by Asad Moos with vintage scrum half support play.

South Africa will look to continue to impress their home fans in their next game against .
