Kata banned for three games after Dingwall tackle

Solomone Kata has received a three-match ban for his tackle on Fraser Dingwall that saw him red carded in the East Midlands derby last weekend, but is likely to only miss one Premiership game.

Kata will miss this Saturday’s clash against Bristol Bears, but included in his ban will also be a friendly against Black Lion the following weekend.

He could also be banned for their match against Sale Sharks, but should avoid missing out as long as he makes an application to World Rugby to undertake the Coaching Intervention Programme (CIP).

The tackle had an entry point of six weeks according to the RFU’s independent disciplinary panel, but was halved due to Kata’s previous good record, remorse, good conduct in the hearing and the fact he accepted committing an act of foul play.

That he admitted wrongdoing would seem to go against what his coach said to The Rugby Paper on the day of the incident, with Dan McKellar feeling the centre should have received a yellow rather than red card on the day.
