The RFU Board and its administrators, chief executive Bill Sweeney and chairman Tom Ilube, have been slammed by Championship clubs for conducting negotiations that impact the entire English game with clandestine secrecy, using the World Cup as a smokescreen.
The source of Championship anger is the RFU pressing ahead with a huge new Professional Game Agreement with Premiership Rugby worth £128m over four years – meaning that another eight-year agreement like that signed in 2016 for £225m could now be worth a whopping £256m.
