WALES and Lions wing Liam Williams has left Cardiff midway through his contract to join Kubota Spears in Japan.
The 32-year-old had a year to run at the Arms Park but Cardiff were keen to offload a big earner with their annual budget set to be cut by £2m – from £7.2m to £5.2m – next season, reducing to £4.5m for the 2024-25 campaign.
“I’m delighted to sign with Kubota Spears,” Williams said. “I have made some incredible memories in Welsh rugby and I’m hopeful we can make more at this World Cup.”
