THE organisers of Europe’s blue riband club event had all week to make a public apology for heaping one injustice after another on to the French champions.
Montpellier had defied Exeter Chiefs on their reservation in Devon for the best part of two hours, finishing unbeaten against the odds at 33-33 only to see the most honourable of draws dissolve into a defeat. As if home advantage and 15 against 14 wasn’t enough, their English opponents went through by virtue of scoring more tries.
It would surely be fairer by far in such circumstances to reward the away...
