Phil Dowson has backed Alex Mitchell to add to his England caps after the Northampton scrum-half came off the bench against Italy at Twickenham last Sunday to create the home side’s final try.
It was the 25-year old Mitchell’s second cap and he had to wait a long time for it having made his debut, again as a replacement, against Tonga in November 2021 when he scored the final try in a 69-3 romp.
