MAX Titchener’s penalty five minutes from time gave Henley Hawks a bonus-point away win over Guernsey Raiders.

Guernsey headed into the 20 minutes with a 14-point advantage but tries from Tom Vooght and Adam Hakimian sliced the lead to two points. Titchener nicked the victory in the 75th minute with a penalty kick in front of the posts to collect only a fifth win of the season.

Owen Thomas got Guernsey off to the perfect start, kicking two penalties in the opening nine minutes, but that lead had quickly turned over, with a converted try. Tom Hall put the finishing touches after an impressive driving maul that put pressure on Guernsey.

Titchener collected his first successful kick, from a challenging position, but Thomas responded with another impressive finish for Raiders’ third penalty.

Discipline was letting Henley down but Hakimian got his first try of the game. The back’s try in the corner, gave them a half-time lead.

Ethan Smith pulled a try back for Guernsey with Thomas showcasing his flawless kicking performance.

The Channel Islands side continued to build on their lead through Anthony Armstrong. They continued to bombard Henley’s back line and Armstrong snaked through.

Thomas converted and, after his substitution, Charlie Davies was tasked with kicking their final penalty, which he did.

With 16 minutes left, Hakimian notched his second and Vooght made it a nervous finish, crashing over for the bonus points.

Titchener rifled his penalty from in front to get a key win.
