CENTRAL contracts are on the agenda after the collapse of Worcester and Wasps and a Department of Culture, Media and Sport report which shows the combined debts of the 13 Premiership clubs at the start of the season was more than £500m.
Bill Sweeney, the RFU’s chief executive, said the “nuclear” option of central contracts, something that has been fiercely resisted by clubs since the dawn of the professional era, was a move that would be considered as part of the attempt to drive down club costs.
