LOUGHBOROUGH Students shaded a hardfought contest at Newport (Salop).
The visitors dominated possession and territory in the first period.
Newport’s errors and technical infringements did nothing to help their cause as Loughborough turned their dominance into a 17-point half-time lead, with three tries, all by front-row forwards.
The first two were scored by tight-head prop Timothy Hoyt, one on the back of a driving maul and the other from a crash ball metres out.
