A FAULTLESS kicking display from Redruth’s Fraser Honey was the difference between the two sides in this keenly contested clash.
Hornets made the better start playing down the slope, stinging the home side with an early try from Connor Vickery, converted by Charlie Carter. Hornets continued to boss affairs, forcing Redruth into uncharacteristic errors.
The Reds levelled with a catch-and-drive try by hooker Richard Brown, bettered by Honey with the first of five conversions.
Hornets made the most of a penalty to the corner to power over from a maul, prop Josh Lloyd scoring. Luke Barnes then crossed for Redruth and Harry Lyon for Hornets. As half-time approached, Redruth scored a couple of tries through flanker Bear Williams and prop Craig Williams.
Hornets began the second half well, kicking a penalty to the corner and setting up a drive that Redruth collapsed. Referee Max Weston awarded a penalty try and sent lock Luke Hattam to the bin.
After a Honey penalty, Tommy Phillips finished off from close quarters. Hornets bagged a fifth try through Ayden Chenoweth, but a late Honey penalty took away the losing bonus point.
