EXETER University and Redruth served up a summer sizzler at Topsham, as the students put the rest of the league on notice, with a hugely impressive bonus point win.

While Redruth opened the scoring through a Fraser Honey penalty, Exeter hit the front with a well-crafted score that allowed Lucas Dorrell to dive over under the posts.

Redruth hit back as their pack began to turn the screw, Jack King the player to dot down.

Exeter were next to score – fly-half Josh Barton produced a perfectly timed intercept to race in. Redruth’s Will Trewin collected his own chip to score, before Exeter captain Ollie Leatherbarrow barrelled over.

Redruth would have the say of an absorbing first half, though, with Kyle Bradley sniping down the shortside.

Into the second-half and Exeter were relentless in their pursuit of the lead, full-back Max Bliss finishing a flowing move, before Leatherbarrow bagged his second off of a Tom Cairns break.

Leatherbarrow then went in the bin for a deliberate knock-on, Dean Bonds finishing in the corner.

Exeter weren’t done yet and scored the try of the game to take the match away from the visitors, with Kofi Barton-Byfield racing clear from halfway. And the game ended with Exeter’s Harvey Dunn seeing red but, by that point, the university had secured victory.
