HINCKLEY edged to victory over hosts Bournville in a tight opening contest.
Bournville centre Rhys Williams kicked an early penalty, but Hinckley responded from their first attack, when a well set maul saw a short off-load from debutant Sam Everett to Mitch Lamb and he scored under the posts. The try was converted by Joe Wilson.
Both sides showed attacking promise from then on, but a combination of handling errors and resolute defending meant scoring opportunities were limited.
