When Marika Koroibete heard that he had been voted man of the series, he could not have been more surprised if a couple of hours earlier England had run the ball from behind their own line.
He had had a prominent role in all three matches, but his embarrassed look revealed what he thought about the media’s decision which begged the question whether it had been made in frustration that the coming weeks will not be blighted with demands for England to sack their head coach.
