It is why the jewel in the crown tournament should not undergo any bogus name-change, or format switch, simply because five South African franchises have been invited into the tournament. The genesis of the tournament is European, as is its history, and the South Africans – while most welcome – are a small minority with only five teams out of the 44 involved in the flagship European Cup and second strata Challenge Cup.
