THE Barbarians should provide a fitting tribute to one of their number, Phil Bennett, when they take on England. The Wales and Lions outside-half, who died last week, believed that flair, skill and daring should be expressed, not suppressed.
The architect of the most replayed try, scored by Gareth Edwards for the Baa-Baas against New Zealand in Cardiff 49 years ago, would have appreciated the French flavour of today’s 23 with only England second row George Kruis, playing his final game before retirement, not attached to a Top 14 club.
