PAUL REES CANVASSES OPINION ON RUGBY’S 20-MINUTE RED CARD EXPERIMENT
World Rugby is considering making the 20-minute red card, which was trialled in the south last year, a global experiment as the number of players sent off for tackles that involve contact with an opponent’s head shows no sign of abating with the international rate three times higher than between the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.
There is a concern that matches are being compromised as spectacles because of red cards for offences which are down to poor technique rather than malice.
