IT’S FUNNY to think that 30 years ago this year I took part in something that happened only five times in the history of the Five Nations and has never yet been achieved in the Six Nations –a back-to-back Grand Slam. First achieved by Wales in 1908/09 with England securing their three in 1913/14, 1923/24 and 1991/92, (the one I played in) and finally France in 1997/98. There is something about winning a back-to-back Grand Slam that rivals – and may actually exceed – winning a World Cup. But I would say that wouldn’t I ?
