HULL claimed the derby spoils in their first meeting with Hull Ionians in seven years.
It is now more than 30 years since Hull’s rugby rift of 1989. The formation of these two clubs permitted old allegiances and ancient antagonisms to be re-acquainted in a derby fixture.
There was none of the festering ill will that has blighted previous games, but this was still a good old-fashioned local clash in which no quarter was asked and none given.
