THIS second successive Test at Green Point Stadium was played in the shadow of Signal Hill and the signal here was that the Boks are not just back in this series, but in the box seat psychologically and physically.
The tourists, and their head coach Warren Gatland, will know better than anyone that they have squandered a golden opportunity – but they still have a second shot at joining the ranks of Lions immortals.
However, they face a huge challenge, and they are going to have to make changes in the pack after a disappointing display in both the set-piece and the breakdown.
