LEICESTER, down to 13 men with Kobus Van Wyk’s red card and Dan Kelly’s yellow, looked to be heading for a defeat of catastrophic proportions when they trailed 28-0 after only 31 minutes.
But the young Tigers side currently being remoulded by Steve Borthwick refused to roll over at Sandy Park as they battled back to score five tries and salvage a consolation bonus point.
They showed tremendous spirit in adversity to reduce the deficit to 40-31 and came within a fingertip of two-point territory when a cross-kick just evaded Freddie Steward’s outstretched fingers.
