SUCHwas the meteoric rise of Exeter’s Stuart Townsend during the latter part of the campaign that it possibly caught England boss Eddie Jones unaware.
The 21-year-old became an influential figure as the Devonians surged towards the play-offs, with his industrious style ideally suiting the Chiefs’ up-tempo game.
He did enough against Northampton and Gloucester to command a place in the XV for both play-off matches and the rest, as they say, is history.
