Mitchell: Lions should go with co-captains

THE Lions captaincy will be the key debate now the Six Nations has concluded, but John Mitchell believes his old Waikato team-mate Warren Gatland could dispense with tradition and select more than one leader, if any at all.
Choosing co-captains in Blaine Scully and Todd Clever worked for Mitchell’s US Eagles at the recent Americas Championship, which they won after a thrilling finale against the Argentina XV, and the former All Blacks coach has questioned the need for Gatland to put all the responsibility on one man’s shoulders.
