Sale have made a complaint to the Rugby Football Union after information was allegedly leaked to opponents Bristol on New Year’s Day.
Bristol fought back from 15-0 down to claim a crucial 24-23 win at the AJ Bell in their battle to avoid relegation.
Neil Fissler broke the story yesterday while the BBC report that the player in question is former Bristol wing Tom Arscott.
