Northampton have signed promising English-qualified second-row David Ribbans from the South African side Western Province.
The 21-year-old is 6ft 8in tall and weighs in at 116kg and arrives on the back of an impressive season which saw him named the Province’s Young Forward of the Year and he was included in the Stormers‘ Super Rugby squad for 2016.
Ribbans made his full debut in the Vodacom Cup in 2015 after helping the Western Province U19’s win the Provincial Championship.
Saints Director of Rugby Jim Mallinder is excited about the lock linking up with his squad for the remainder of the season.
“David is a player who has the potential to have a successful rugby career,” said Mallinder.
“He is a big man who is also very athletic and has a good understanding of the game. We’re looking forward to seeing him develop here at Franklin’s Gardens.”
