Following the extremely disappointing start to their season, Bristol have suspended director of rugby Andy Robinson.
The former England and Scotland coach is replaced by Marc Tainton who will act as acting head coach with immediate effect.
The West Country side, who are yet to win a game in the Premiership this season and also lost their first two games in the Challenge Cup, will carry out an immediate review of their coaching needs and requirements.
Tainton is the club’s all-time leading points scorer and has previously coached at International level with Ireland, as well as with Wasps and London Irish in the Premiership.
Club Chairman Chris Booy, said: “This is clearly a very difficult time for the Club, but we remain confident we can retain our position in the Premiership.
“The support for the Club this season has been outstanding and that continued backing is very important going forward. Thank you.”
