Australia flanker Michael Hooper has been cited for striking Argentina fly-half Nicolas Sanchez in the Wallabies’ 34-9 victory in Mendoza.
The Waratahs back row had just passed to Dean Mumm – who would go on to wrestle four Pumas defenders and still score – before offering a support line that led to the incident between him and the Argentine playmaker in the 59th minute.
Should the 23 year-old be found guilty of striking an opponent he could miss the Rugby Championship decider against rivals New Zealand, with both Tasman nations two out of two for the competition thus far.
Hooper was captain of the national side before coach Michael Cheika opted for Stephen Moore to take the lead role heading into this year’s Rugby Championship and Rugby World Cup.
