Toulon have today confirmed that Steffon Armitage spent last night in custody on suspicion of assault.
The flanker was summoned by police yesterday alongside prop Xavier Chiocci after allegedly attacking a 30-year-old man at a party after the Champions Cup victory over Leicester on December 13.
Chiocci was released last night but, in a statement, the European champions confirmed Armitage was still being held.
The statement read: “Steffon Armitage spent the night in custody and a decision concerning his release should be taken today.
“We are awaiting the results of the investigation and will, if necessary, place sanctions on the players to preserve the values that are dear to Toulon.”
