Exeter Chiefs claimed their first home win of the season beating Harlequins 36-13 at Sandy park yesterday.
A convincing first-half from the Devon side saw Thomas Waldrom score an opportunist try while 14 points from the boot of Gareth Steenson and Henry Slade gave them a 19-6 lead at half-time.
Fijian winger Aseli Tikoirotuma brought Quins back into the contest with his first try of the season but that was as good as it got for the visitors as captain Jack Yeandle and the impressive Slade sealed the win for the Chiefs.
In the other game, Tom Varndell scored twice to help Wasps secure a 35-18 bonus-point win over Newcastle at Adams Park.
The winger’s first and another from James Gaskell put the home side 17-6 in front but a late effort from Ruki Tipuna for the Falcons closed the gap to 17-11 at half-time.
Varndell’s second and one from the other Sale recruit of the summer Rob Miller made sure Wasps had five points from their efforts despite a late penalty try for the visitors.
