Owen will miss the third Test against in Hamilton.
The fly-half suffered a strain to the medial ligament in his left knee but will stay with the squad for the remainder of the tour.
He will be replaced in the starting XV by who impressed in the .
England Head Coach said: “The knee has been scanned and there is a strain there. It’s disappointing for Owen as he was desperate to play in the Test but such is his character that he is already working on his rehab and still contributing to the tour.
“Freddie and whoever we decide for the bench slot now has another opportunity. The challenge facing Freddie is to back up that performance that he produced in the first Test into the third Test. I’m confident he’ll be ready.”
is still struggling with a shoulder injury which could hand Lee Dickson an opportunity after his convincing display against the Crusaders today.
“I’ll have a chat with Danny, the physios and everyone else involved on Wednesday to ask the question,” Lancaster said.
“He needs to be 100% physically and mentally to be available for selection because you can’t go into a Test against the not in that position, particularly when I’ve got three -halves who are fit and able.”
