Following an exciting finish to the recent RBS Six Nations tournament, when England were ultimately denied by the free-flowing Irish, fans of international rugby have been counting down the days until the next big test. Big tests don’t come much bigger than a tour to New Zealand to face the almighty All Blacks on their own patch, which is what England is doing, starting on Saturday.
Forget the football World Cup – at least for another week – because the real action is happening at Eden Park in Auckland where the first of three Tests will be played. England coach, Stuart Lancaster, has named a strong squad for the tour to contest the Hillary Shield in NZ, which England has won once previously, compared to the All Blacks’ four victories. England are also scheduled to face Super Rugby giants, Crusaders, before the third and final Test in Hamilton on June 21. The second Test is being played on June 14 at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin.
The All Blacks have been helping to promote the tour with a cool video from sponsors AIG Direct Travel Insurance, which involves a number of the New Zealand stars. The ‘Take on the World’ video features seven All Blacks; Ma’a Nonu (centre), Israel Dagg (fullback), Ryan Crotty (centre), Luke Romano (lock), Jeremy Thrush (lock), Kieran Read (number 8)and Dane Coles (hooker) and was filmed at Auckland Airport.
If you haven’t seen the video, check it out below. Intended to be light-hearted, clips show the super-ripped All Blacks being made up for the cameras before passing their AIG travel insurance documents, in an all black envelope, around the airport terminal while bemused fellow passengers look on. It may be an envelope, and not remotely similar in shape to a rugby ball, but their handling skills are still very impressive – and just a little bit intimidating!
Once your insurance is sorted you can relax – now all you need to worry about is how England will fare!
