Exeter Chiefs claimed their first major trophy beating Northampton Saints 15-8 at Sandy Park in the LV=Cup final.
Playing in front of a partisan crowd, the Chiefs were off to a flyer with hooker Chris Whitehead going over from a well-worked catch and drive.
Former England U20s fly-half Henry Slade missed the conversion but slotted a penalty just before half-time to take a 8-3 lead into the break.
Looking to increase the gap early, Exeter started the second half strongly again and captain Dean Mumm concluded a move started by Fetu Vainikolo and Kai Horstman down the left wing to make it 15-3.
Northampton reacted swiftly as they had to score next but they could only manage to do so ten minutes from time with American Samu Manoa scoring in the corner.
The Premiership leaders were back within striking range but they couldn’t break the Chiefs’ defence and had to suffer their third successive defeat in the tournament.
