Richard Cockerill has been banned for nine games for using ‘obscene and inappropriate’ language towards the fourth official in the last Premiership final.
The Leicester Tigers director of rugby pleaded not guilty to the offence but the RFU panel found that Cockerill used words that were obscene, inappropriate and unprofessional and behaviour that was inappropriate and unprofessional.
Cockerill’s rant was sparked after his playmaker and captain Toby Flood was left concussed and had to leave the field mid-way through the first half following a late tackle from Courtney Lawes.
He will be suspended from involvement in match day coaching activities, before during and after matches, from September 7 to November 2 2013.
