Harlequins made sure they finished the Heineken Cup pool stages unbeaten with a hard-fought 16-9 win in Biarritz in horrendous weather conditions tonight.
This sixth win in as many games means the Premiership Champions will end the group stages with at least one the best three record in the competition and will play in front of their home fans in the quarter-finals in April.
Dimitri Yachvili and Nick Evans exchange a penalty each to see the score leveled at 3-3 after 15 minutes but a try from Tom Guest just after the half-hour mark helped Quins to a 10-3 lead at the break.
Yachvili kicked two penalties early to make it a one-point game but Evans kicked a monster penalty with the help of the cross-bar to give the English side a bigger cushion.
Biarritz and Yachvili missed a penalty before Evans secured the win with his fourth penalty of the game.
Meanwhile in Galway, Connacht earned a 25-20 over Zebre.
Twelve points from the boot of Dan Parks put Connacht 12-6 up at the break with Daniel Halangahu kicking two penalties for the Italians.
A penalty try gave Connacht a 13-point lead but two penalties in quick succession from Halangahu brought Zebre within striking range.
Ruggero Trevisan went over for the Italians to reduce the gap to two points before Halangahu put them in front for the first time of the game with his fifth penalty of the game.
But Parks answered him straight back to put the Irish in the lead again before sealing the win with a second drop-goal five minutes from time.
