1. Seagulls
There was a time when I used to like the sound of seagulls, as it reminded me of good times spent on holiday at the seaside. But not now! I live in a flat right by docks – as far away from the coast as you could imagine – and for some reason a flock of our feathered friends are regularly attracted to the roof of the building opposite. The noise they make is horrendous which is not good for someone who enjoys at least 10 hours kip a night.
TRP verdict: Call us Gull-ible if you like but you’re in.
2. Other people’s music
I’m pretty eclectic when it comes to my musical taste – much of which is inspired by recommendations from club team-mate Andy Hazell. However that’s not to say I like to involuntarily hear other people’s music. This is especially annoying when you’re walking through town and someone has their tunes of choice playing on their mobile without any headphones on. There’s one song that seems to be following me around at the moment and it is really annoying me: Pink’s Just Give Me A Reason, featuring Nate Ruess who, ironically, is from the band ‘Fun’. I can think of plenty reasons why I never want to hear that song again!
TRP verdict: We’re tickled Pink by your choice. That’s 2 out of 2.
3. Playing in the cold
There’s one reason and one reason alone why I’d prefer any side other than to be promoted from the this season: the weather. Whenever I’m complaining about being cold and wet, which seems to be happening quite a lot of late, the lads remind me that I haven’t played at Newcastle yet on a Friday night. I believe that’s as cold as it gets. Just watching the Saxons game there on TV earlier this year made me shiver. As a -half it is really difficult to get a good purchase on the ball when you’re passing off the floor of a greasy surface and your fingers are completely numb. I’m definitely a fair weather player and like a lot of my fellow pros I’d quite happily switch to summer .
TRP verdict: Time for the cold shoulder, you’re out.
