Room 101: Matt Everard – Nottingham flanker

1. Wet socks
It’s amazing how many times I put on a fresh, clean pair of socks as I’m about to go out only to stand in a hidden pool of water on the floor … I can’t abide that! I live in a shared house but, to be fair, it’s usually me that’s spilt water on the kitchen or bathroom floor in the first place and not realised.
TRP verdict: You’ve really put your foot in it now … but we feel your angst!
2. Being hungry
I’m the most irrational man around when I’m hungry. I get really agitated and impatient until I’ve had some food inside me. Normally I have to have four to five meals a day because I’ve got a quick metabolism and find it hard to keep weight on. Pizza is a quick and easy option to keep the red mist at bay but my grandmother’s roast chicken dinner is the one meal that really hits the spot.
TRP verdict: No need to make a meal about it!
3. Loud people in the gym
This is specifically aimed at my team-mate Toby Freeman, who is like a fog horn even at 8 o’clock in the morning. While everyone else just wants to get their head down and get on with their work at that time of day, he bounces around like a big kid. At 6ft 6ins he is very large and loud and what makes it worse is his insistence that his lifting technique is better than everyone else’s. You’re doomed if he gets Dan Montagu in a similar mood.
TRP verdict: (Raising the) bar-humbug to you too!
