1. Coffee
Personally I don’t understand the appeal of coffee. I can’t stand the taste and it is way too over-priced. When we’re on away trips the rest of the lads can’t get enough of their Costa coffee or Starbucks when we stop at the services. I normally just have juice or water or the occasional hot chocolate; the only time I really have any caffeine is when I have Jägerbombs.
TRP verdict: We’re not going to latte you have this one.
2. Ponderers
It annoys me when people over-analyse things and never get around to making a decision. My wife and I have been busy getting our new house sorted and the decorating is taking ages. She goes through everything to the ‘nth’ degree – from choosing which shade of paint goes with which soft furnishing to the style of door handles. Everything has to be ‘just so’ whereas I just like to crack on with things, get it done and move on with my life!
TRP verdict: Let’s think about this for a moment … you’re in
3. Gym scores
Selection for a weekend should be about rugby ability alone but sometimes I think someone’s prowess in the gym influences things. It doesn’t happen at Fylde but higher up there is definitely too much emphasis on what a player can lift and not on whether they can actually catch the ball, draw a man and pass, and this happens at an early age. In New Zealand they seem to have the right approach: work on skills first and then bulk up later. It doesn’t seem to have done them any harm!
