Room 101: Tom Holmes – Rotherham forward

Tom Holmes1.Lost Ball ‘desperados’
Playing a round of golf with my former team-mate, prop Henry Thomas, can take ages. He lets his competitive streak get the better of him to the extent that he will never accept that a stray shot that has disappeared into the woods or knee-high rough is a lost cause. I love a round of golf when the sun’s out but the amount of time some people waste looking through the undergrowth kills me. Henry, to be fair, isn’t the most accurate off the tee; he’s got a hook which he tries to correct by aiming far right. People should just ‘let it go’, take the penalty shot and move on; life’s too short.
TRP verdict: Sometimes in life you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth, but you’ve gone a ‘fairway’ to making it into
2.Know-it-alls
A common term found in the world is ‘nause’, as in nauseating. It is used to describe someone who is a bit of an anorak when it comes to knowing a particular subject inside and out. Some people might label me a lineout ‘nause’ because I can talk for hours about lineout moves. ‘Nauses’ in everyday life though really get on my nerves: you know the types, the people who go on and on about something nobody else really cares that much about in a bid to impress and then almost take joy in the fact you are completely in the dark.
TRP verdict: Point taken. Well done.
3.Indecision
When I’m on my own I like to think I am quite decisive, but things tend to get over-complicated when other people get involved in the decision-making process. This applies to when I’m out with my girlfriend or when me and my flat mate, Titans prop Marshall Gadd, are deciding what to do when we’ve got a bit of time off. Debates over which coffee shop to go to, what to have for lunch etc. can go on and on. I suppose I’m too much of a ‘people pleaser’.
TRP verdict: It’s in no doubt, you’re in again.
