I started playing rugby when I was 11 years old with my local town club, Fermoy, in Cork. I was always a big kid, a stone for every year, so it suited more than Soccer, Gaelic Football or Hurling. When I went to UCD, I played under a couple of good coaches in Brian Hyland (forwards) and Peter Melia (backs) and that helped to accelerate my growth as a player.
