I want to be England’s starting No.1, Mako Vunipola tells Eddie Jones

Mako Vunipola is determined to be the No.1 name on ‘ first team-sheet.
And the 20st loose-head prop does not intend to let anyone stand in his formidable way of a start against .
No fewer than 22 of Vunipola’s 27 caps have been from the bench but now the 24-year-old hopes the change of leadership will help open the door for him as a starter.
Mako had to sit and suffer for most of England’s dismal failure, as rival was picked ahead of him.
Vunipola has played a leading role in ‘ flying start to the season. And now he aims to make the white jersey his own for Jones’ first game in charge at Murrayfield on February 6.
“I have to put up my hand up to the new coach and say ‘pick me’. I’d love to be wearing that No1 jersey against Scotland,” said Vunipola, 24.
“Being at a club which is doing well like Sarries in both the domestic and European competitions is certainly a big advantage.
”I was in the academy when Eddie Jones was at Saracens, but I heard stories about him being a tough task master and that he expects a lot of everyone. But he also expects a lot from himself.
“He leaves no stone unturned which is the Saracens way of doing things. We’re very lucky here because the coaches we have have that same meticulous and focused attitude.
“With all his international experience he will be used to the pressure. He will not care who says what about him or the side, he will just do things his way.
“The World Cup was so disappointing. But the England boys seem to have shrugged it off and are playing some good for their clubs.”
