Dean Ryan says relegated will continue to make the “drastic change” needed to turn them into a competitive top-flight side.
The Warriors’ demotion was made certain by ‘ 44-20 victory on Saturday, with director of Ryan vowing that a spell in the Champi- onship would see them return to the in different shape. “This club has not gone about its business in the right way for a long, long time,” said Ryan.
“What happened to this club had to happen. There aren’t many clubs that have the balls to take the drastic change that was needed – full credit to the board for doing so.
“I’m incredibly proud of the 20 or 25 people who have been working hard for the past two or three months. It’s clear the improvements they’ve made and how they feel about the club. The people coming in are going to add to that.
“We are going to try and grow a proper rugby club. One that puts resources in the right area and trusts its Academy.”
Ryan said players would be “hurting for months”.
He added: “There are some big players in that changing room and being in the Cham- pionship is going to hurt egos and test humility. But it’s a driver to make sure we come back to this level and grow.
“It’s a tough day for every- one at the club but it’s an important one for people to recognise and make sure we don’t end up here again.”
