2. Sebastien Bruno – Ruthless. He was fierce in every game and would be everywhere, giving everything.
3. Lionel Faure – Not the biggest but he’d always go forward and contributed all over the pitch. He was a great competitor.
4. Simon Shaw – He would provide the grunt in this team. A beast of a player who is still going strong, he brings great experience, great strength and great power. He’s just a phenomenal, big old unit.
5. Chris Jones – If Shawsy is providing the grunt then I’d work well alongside him as the lineout man, we’d complement each other nicely!
6. Jason White – Jason is in the team for his leadership. He’d be captain because he is someone players follow.
7. Matt Kvesic – He’s got a huge future ahead of him. I’ve not seen anyone carry the ball as well as him as a seven and I think it’s a matter of time before he gets England honours.
8. Sebastien Chabal – Workrate wasn’t his strength but he was the kind of player that could just turn a game. He’s someone who strikes fear into the opposition.
9. Bryan Redpath – Another in the side for his leadership. A real boss of a scrum-half who was always very vocal with the forwards and his delivery of the ball was excellent as well. A player who commanded respect.
10. Jonny Wilkinson – A wonderful player with great vision and dedication. I remember going to Newcastle with Sale and we were leading with not long to go, but there was a slight slip by one of our defenders, Jonny spotted it and won them the game with his vision.
11. Ben Foden – Slightly out of position but I have to have him in my team. He’s just got that magic – even if he’s not always in control of it! He’s another who can win you games with that spark.
12. Luke McAlister – Arguably the best I’ve played with. When he came to Sale I saw his legs and I thought he was a prop! He is a fantastic all-rounder – great pass, amazing power and speed and he knocks over his kicks from anywhere within 60 metres.
13. Lee Thomas – I’ve gone for Lee because of the partnership he and Luke had at Sale. It was formidable and very little got through.
14. David Strettle – I really had to think about this one but I will go with Strettle seeing as a scored a hat-trick against me last week. He’s a flyer and he’s really doing well at the moment. He’s a mate from [Sheffield Hallam] University as well so I better put him in.
15. Rory Lamont – Rory is the reason I’ve got Foden out of position. Defensively he’s rock solid and is very rarely breached. Going forward he’s one of those who just spins out of tackles and keeps going. Underrated.
