West Country rivals Bath and Bristol are battling over Wales loosehead Nicky Smith, who could activate a get-out clause written into his contract and leave Ospreys at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old attracted interest from the Bears, Saracens, Exeter and Northampton last year, but he opted to sign a new long-term contract to remain with his home town club.
Smith, who has 46 caps, has a release clause in the contract which means he will be allowed to walk away this summer and move to either the Premiership or France.
