Former Wales boss Wayne Pivac turned down the chance of becoming Newcastle Falcons boss next season before the Premiership’s basement side turned to Alex Codling.
Codling has agreed on a deal with the Falcons, but Blindside understands that he wasn’t their first choice to replace Dave Walder, who was recently put on gardening leave.
Pivac wasn’t interested in the terms the Falcons offered, so they turned to former England lock Codling, who is working in France as a member of Joe El-Abd’s coaching staff at Oyonnax.
